User Manual

The standard version of our software includes everything in the premium version except there are no  solutions/explanations provided by Mariner Advancement to the U.S.C.G. problems.  If you are familiar with the material and don't need an explantion or additional information related to the questions then all you may need is the standard version.  The standard version still has the illustrations and all of the features listed below.  Both standard and premeium come preinstalled on a USB flashdrive.

The premium version of our software is a new product.   It is identical to the standard version in every way with the exception that it contains additional content.  The additional content includes written explanations, groupings of related questions, solutions, and edited illustrations to over 1250 of the  U.S.C.G engineering exam questions. We show how to solve many of the math problems step by step, provide explanations for refrigeration graphs, vernier calibers, electrical problems, barge displacement problems and more. Currently, the additional content only covers  the electrical and general sections.  Not all of the exam questions have this feature.  We will continue to add additional content in the future.  Any new additions will be available to Premium customers as free updates downloadable from our resources page.

2nd Engineer Unlimited

Engineer Unlimited Exams

Mariner Advancement Engineer Unlimited examination preparation software  is designed for  2nd Engineer Unlimited, 1st Engineer Unlimited, and Chief Engineer Unlimited Steam and Motors Licenses.  Each USCG Engineering license's exam is composed of different modules.  The modules you will need to study depends on the raise in grade and what type of propulsion you are testing for.   Check with the coast guard to determine which sections you should be studying.  You should also check to see if you can upgrade without testing.  This seems to be possible depending on the date you received your current license and depending on what raise in grade you are applying for.

Version 2.0 contains new features such as better search utilities, the tag question screen, ability to display the questions and illustrations on the screen at the same time, supports more screen resolutions and is now compatible with Norton 2010 antivirus.

You can now open a file search menu and display all U.S.C.G. images as thumbnails when searching for illustrations.  You no longer have to search illustrations and text in each section separately, the program does this for you and lets the user know how many matches were found in each section.

The new tag question feature allows you to tag a question and then recall all tagged questions from the tagged question menu. This makes it easy to mark difficult questions and return to them for review.

Some of our customers reported they found some questions difficult to answer because they needed to see the illustration and question in a juxtaposition.  Our illustration window now is supplied with a slide bar that allows you to very the opacity of the illustration thereby seeing through it straight to the question.

Our software contains all of the sections necessary to pass the above exams.  Our software contains 3982 Engineering General questions, 2160 Engineering Safety questions, 2638 Motors / Aux Boilers questions, 1800 Electrical questions and 1975 Steam Propulsion questions.  All USCG Illustrations are included in the software and are attached to each question for easy reference.

Note:  If you do not require the steam endorsement on you license then make sure you inform the USCG you do not wish to test for it.  You can then ignore the Steam Propulsion section of the study material.  You will still need to know the auxiliary steam portion under motors.   See our Products page for screen shots and warranty information.

The flash drive also contains an Engineering Resources folder that includes U.S. Navy training manuals.  These are in PDF format and include Damage Controlman, Engineman, Fireman, Machinary Repairman, Introduction to Electrical, Introduction to Generators, Tools, and Fluid Power.  Many of the coast guard questions come from these manuals.
